Research and Analysis
Students will use word processing software to enter and organize their information after researching and reading about health related issues: sleep and eating habits
Students will use a graphic organizer to enter data information they discovered during research on computer and reading two texts. (t-chart, double bubble diagram, chart)
Students will create a PowerPoint presentation incorporating pictures – higher bility students to communicate their findings.
Results Presentation (Higher ability students)The final product will be a PowerPoint presentation displaying information collected during research and readings of healthy sleeping and eating habits. (high students) multimedia presentation that demonstrates their ability to synthesize information and compare to own lives along with an essay written in Word. (Average ability students)-The final product will be an essay published in word that demonstrates their ability to research, read, and synthesize information and compare it to own lives. Students will also use Clipart or Google images to final document. (Lower ability students) The final product will be a Venn diagram that demonstrates their ability to synthesize research and writing by comparing information. Students will have the opportunity to type in word if time allows. Some of my students with special needs have this accommodation so their results will be displayed in that form.
Planning Computer Activities
Small groups of students complete the following activities: observe teacher using SMARTBOARD to model research and creation of graphic organizer & word documents, research healthy eating/sleeping habits (teacher assistance if needed), rotation stations for computer use (word processing)
During Computer Use
The following computer tasks are divided among group members/partners:
Search for information by partners: eating habits & sleeping habits
Enter and organize information using double bubble diagram or chart in Word
Write an essay using Word and adding pictures when applicable

Before Computer Use
Read 2 texts
Enter known information into double bubble diagram (three circles)
List information needed from Internet search (highlight important words in guiding questions)
Observe teacher researching health related concepts using internet
Plan your PowerPoint presentation / Plan your Venn diagram / Plan the outline of your essay, etc.
After Computer Use
Organize all information and determine if any information is missing.
Reread texts or refine research on internet
Review final product and check it for errors.
Supporting Activities
Proofread and edit word documents using spell check and grammar check on computer
Display PowerPoint presentations
Heterogeneous groups- share/display essays
Assessment
Rubric: Essay that supports explaining the problem (healthy habits vs. personal habits)
